Welcome to El Cerrito

A peaceful, hillside community with breathtaking bay views

The peaceful, hilly community of El Cerrito is located on Contra Costa County's extreme southwest corner. El Cerrito offers breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge and neighboring cities, including the picturesque hills on the eastern shores of Francisco Bay.

Earthquake refugees from San Francisco were the founders of El Cerrito in the early 20th century. The community grew into an official California neighborhood in 1917 after many refugees chose to settle in the area. Present-day El Cerrito, which translates to little hills, is now one of the most desirable places to live in California.
