Welcome to Piedmont

A small and charming city of millionaires surrounded by Oakland

Piedmont is a small affluent city at the base of Oakland Hills near the Bay Area's center. It is a separate municipality with a town system despite being surrounded by Oakland. Locals gave this charming city the moniker 'City Of Millionaires' in the early 1900s because it had the most number of millionaires per square mile. Today, Piedmont still holds on to its name, with lots of luxurious homes within this suburb of Oakland. Many millionaire mansions from the 20th century remain in Piedmont, with newer affluent estates constructed in the following decades.

Walking through Piedmont neighborhoods, you will see all types of architecture, from large craftsman bungalows to unique contemporary designs. Spanish Colonial Revivals and Tudors also exist within the eclectic mix of architecturally diverse luxury homes. Most residents enjoy breathtaking views from their cozy homes every day.

Local Lifestyle

Living in Piedmont provides residents, most of whom are homeowners, with a sparse suburban feel. Being predominantly zoned for residential use, not much commercial activity exists within the community. That's no issue because locals can quickly get to Oakland for everything they need.

Piedmont has a small commercial district along Highland Avenue in the center of town where locals go for convenient shopping. Residents here enjoy a strong sense of community with several lovely parks, a community center, and "hometown" celebrations that bring people together.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

There are several eateries and stores for convenient shopping within Piedmont, including the Good Neighbor’s jewelry store. The best of Oakland's restaurants and shopping hubs are only a few minutes away for those who desire more extensive shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Wine lovers stock up on their supplies at Ordinaire Wine Shop & Wine Bar, which has a wide variety of local and international fine wine. Grab a freshly baked pastry at Mo's Bake Shop or go to Mulberry's Market for grocery supplies and more. Enjoy delectable light fare at the café attached to the market before heading home.

Things to Do

Piedmont is a bustling community known for its numerous festivals. The festivities never seem to end, from the Fourth of July Parade to the Harvest Festival and Piedmont Jazz Festival. These fun-filled festivities keep the community lively.
